Encouraging diversity in aerospace: Safran supports IAWA’s annual conference

Safran is helping to spotlight workplace diversity and recognize the achievements of women with its sponsorship of the International Aviation Womens Association’s (IAWA) 26th annual conference, which was held this month in Seattle, Washington.

The group's active presence at the event included Karen Bomba, President & CEO of Morpho Detection, who introduced Safran during a membership breakfast, along with the participation of women from its Morpho and Sagem business units.

Hosting a record attendance of more than 250 women from 18 different countries, the IAWA conference brought together professionals in the aviation sector to establish connections and discuss key topics in this global industry.

In particular, IAWA encouraged women to use their network to pursue mentorships that can help them develop career strategies – with a goal of increasing the number of women in leadership positions.

Speakers covered industry trends in areas including: aircraft maintenance and service solutions; Asia's new role in aviation; and airport integration, as well as focusing on the importance of mentoring women in the aviation field, beyond promoting STEM education.

Next year's conference will be held from November 10-12 in Dubai, in conjunction with the 2015 Dubai Air Show.
